Selected Solid Waste Experience

• Design and permitting for two recycling drop-off centers serving suburban communities
   
• Construction of a lined landfill with leachate collection and pumping facilities for ash from a resource recovery plant
   
• Landfill siting for a lined landfill to serve 33 towns, 120 tpd, including initial screening of 33 towns, public presentation of siting process, approximately 120 potential sites reviewed, 14 sites considered in greater detail for risk of ground water and surface water contamination
   
• Review of two operating landfills for potential use and/or purchase as a district-owned landfill
   
• Reviewed proposals from private landfills to provide interim lined landfill capacity to a solid waste district
   
• Designed the closure of more than a dozen existing landfills
   
• Designed relocation of 40,000 CY landfill into lined and covered cell
   
• Responsible for hydrogeologic assessment of 14 landfills in a statewide landfill assessment program, scope of study included: field survey and landfill recon, remote sensing, geophysical surveys, installation of monitoring wells, and reporting
   
• Performed annual inspections on operating landfills in accordance with their operating licenses
   
• Ground monitoring and sampling at many private and municipal landfills
   
• Site selection for a materials recovery facility and a transfer station for an 11 town solid waste district
   
• Waste inventory, cost analysis and preliminary design for a windrow organic waste composting facility to receive sludge and source separated food wastes
   
• Process selection and preliminary design of a food waste and animal manure composting facility for the University of Vermont
